At 69, Famous singer Bappi Lahiri succumbs to obstructive sleep apnea

Veteran singer Bappi Lahiri passed away due to obstructive sleep apnea. He was admitted to the hospital for a month due to a lung infection caused by obstructive sleep apnea. He suffered from multiple health disorders and finally succumbed to obstructive sleep apnea. 

Obstructive sleep apnea is a common breathing disorder, in which the upper airway is blocked by something. Due to the blockage, a person’s diaphragm and chest muscles exert more to open the airway to pull air into the lungs. Many treatments are available for the condition, the commonest one isusing a device to ensure that the airways are open while sleeping. Physicians also use a mouthpiece to push the lower jaw forward during sleep. Surgery is also an option in some cases.
